This will require a walk-through of the facility that you have chosen to audit. Find at least five improvements that you think could be easily implemented and would improve your energy efficiency based on your audit. 2) Estimate what the average annual energy usage should be for your facility (base case for an energy efficient building at that location). The following resources may be helpful to you: The Department of Energy Do-It-Yourself Home Energy Audits, the Energy Star Home Energy Yardstick, and the Home Energy Saver House Annual Energy Use. Report your annual results in expected cost (dollars), Total Energy Use (electricity in kWh and heating in therms), and Greenhouse Gas Emissions (lb CO2e). 3) Next, find the actual annual energy usage in your chosen facility (expressed in the same units as above, i.e., $, kWh, therms, and lb CO2e). You will need to obtain a copy of the energy bill for the facility to make this calculation. How efficient is your facility compared to the average in Iowa City and compared to an energy efficient case? Use the Energy Star Home Energy Performance Results and HES Home Energy Saver websites or their equivalents to perform your analysis. 4) Suggest two energy-efficient improvements to your building or residence and calculate their benefits (i.e., how many kilowatt hours and therms would be saved each year, dollars saved, and pounds of carbon dioxide emissions avoided). These are measures of energy efficiency and sustainability. Now, try to implement one of the actions you evaluated. 5) Write the results of your energy audit and calculated benefits in a short Energy Audit report (at least 3 pages, typewritten, laser or ink-jet printed). Tell what you did, use tables or figures to illustrate your findings; answer the questions above, give references, and state the benefits of your actions. It is especially encouraged to actually implement one of the actions recommended in your report (do it)! Explain what you did in the report. Required Readings: 1) U. S.
