seed grants and student travel funds
CGRER Seed Grant ProgramProgram ObjectivesThe University of Iowa Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research currently funds up to 10 seed grant proposals per fiscal year. These small grants are intended for pilot studies on global change, climate effects, and regional environmental research related to global environmental problems. The primary goal of the Center is to evaluate the effects and interactions of global change on earth surface processes and people at both the global and interactions of global change (climate forcing) and the feedback effects at the regional and global scale are considered.Who May ApplySupport for Center funds will be awarded to members of the Center scientific staff, to other scientists working in collaboration with Center scientists, and to other meritorious research projects. Initially, these State funds will be restricted to higher education (Colleges and Universities in Iowa) and those central to the objectives of the Center.Application MechanismInvestigators will be asked to submit an innovative short proposal (5-7 pages text maximum) which should include a brief description of the aims, perceived value, methods, time frame, budget with justifications, importance to the goals of the Center, and the study's potential for further grant support or matching. An Executive summary not to exceed 150 words should be included. Funds may be used to support graduate research assistants, other support personnel, and for the purchase of supplies and equipment excluding computing and facilities equipment. No faculty salary financial support will be allowed. Travel necessary to the conduct of the study and reporting results in national and state meetings will be allowed. Seed grants are not renewable.more |
