Design
and Installation of the Iowa Atmospheric Measurement Station (IA-AMS)
Keri C. Hornbuckle and William E. Eichinger, Department
of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Iowa.
The central objective of this research initiative is to develop a permanent
air sampling station and meteorlogical instrumentation site that may be used
for long term field measurements, short term intensive campaigns, and in support
of classroom instruction. This site would be used in a variety of applications
to measure trace atmospheric gases and aerosols, surface atmospheric interactions,
water use, and turbulence. These atmospheric constituents and processes will
be monitores and modeled as a function of seasonal and long-term climate change
in the region. The station, henceforth called the Iowa Atmospheric Measurement
Station (IA-AMS) will be equipped with instrumentation for measuring trace levels
of persistent organic pollutants (POP's), heat and water vapor fluxes from soil
and vegitation; instruments to measure the use of solar energy and water by
the plant canopy, and fine particulates in air.
