Description:

Two satellite-derived data sets covering the world's oceans are presented in a co-registered format on this set of 5 CD-ROMs. Monthly mean distributions of sea surface temperature and phytoplankton pigment concentration are derived from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) carried aboard the NOAA-series polar-orbiting satellites and from the Nimbus-7 Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS), respectively. These data cover a period from 1978-1986 for the Nimbus-7 CZCS, and 1981-1986 for the NOAA AVHRR. Regional images are available for the Agulhas region, Indian Ocean, North Atlantic, Northeast Atlantic, South Atlantic, Northeast Pacific, Northwest Pacific, Southeast Pacific, and Southwest Pacific Oceans.

All of the data on these CD-ROMs is stored in Hierarchical Data Format (HDF). Documentation about this data file format along with software can read it are available in the CGRER computer laboratory.
