Description:
This is the first in a series of new CD-ROMs in support of the
Joint Education Initiative project.
JEI is an informal group of government agencies, companies,
educators, and individuals formed in 1990 "to broaden
educational horizons and promote the advancement of science."
It is funded by NSF with the cooperation of the USGS, NOAA, and NASA.
This CD-ROM contains a variety of remotely sensed imagery
including: a digitized Apollo 17 photograph of the earth, Gloria sonar
images of the Northeast Pacific ocean floor, GOES satellite images
of the Mount St. Helens ash plume, HCMM scenes of Northern Arizona,
Viking imagery of Mars, Magellan radar images of Venus, SPOT images
of Washington, D.C., Landsat images of Valles Caldera, New Mexico,
AVHRR mosaic images and a shaded relief map of the coterminous U.S.,
an aerial photograph, radar and thermal images of Sunset Crater,
Arizona, AVHRR images of several Mt. Redoubt, Alaska, eruptions,
Landsat and Seasat radar images of the San Francisco Peaks
volcanic field, Arizona.
A wide variety of image display and image processing software for
PCs and Macintoshes on this CD-ROM. (There is even a copy of LINUX,
a version of Unix for PCs.)
