GIS: Man, Nature & Technology
[17 minutes, USGS]

Historic picutures and artwork are used to demonstrate how early humans passed geographic information about their environment from generation to generation to survive. After using a Native American "Buffalo Jump" site as an example, the program focuses on the history of the U.S. Geological Survey and its role in developing and perfecting the use of GIS technology. The videotape also includes examples of GIS applications, such as locating a potential housing site in the Spearfish Canyon area of the Black Hills of South Dakota.
