Midwest Soil Wetness DepictionFlooding of the Midwest extended well beyond the immediate vicinity of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers as shown in this sequence of figures of soil wetness indices (brighter = wetter). The "Great Lake" of Iowa, a region of particularly high soil wetness and surface flooding, can clearly be seen in the July 15 image.
