Iowa State Average Precipitation
- The fall of 1992 was unsually wet with record
rains in southern Iowa in September.
- Widespread heavy precipitation later in the
fall of 1992 brought the fifth wettest November on record.
- The heavy rains in early March 1993 combined with
the snowmelt runoff, rained river levels and contributed
to ice jam flooding in southern Iowa
- An average of 8.09" of rain had fallen over
Iowa in June, 1993, the third highest total in 121 years!
- A total of 47.5" of rain fell across Iowa from
November 1, 1992 through August 1993.
This total is 20.74" more than average and an
incredible 11.92" more than the previous record.
- There were only 13 days without measureable rainfall
somewhere in Iowa between April 23 and September 1, 1993.
- In fact, the entire
Upper Mississippi River Basin
received record precipitation in 1993.
