Asian
Conference on Air Pollution
October
2-6, 1998
Jaipur,
India

Background
During the Acid Reign 95, international conference in Gothenburg,
Sweden, it was noted that the Asian continent faced unique and growing
problems of air pollution. These problems can only become exacerbated
in the future given the high industrial growth rates of many Asian economies.
A group of Asian experts at the conference decided that there was an urgent
need for a meeting in which the the scientists could discuss the problems
of air pollution specifically in the Asian context, in India.
Aims
The aim of the conference is to systematically review the
various air pollution problems facing the Asian countries and discuss the
latest research findings as well as identifying solutions to these problems.
It is intended that the participants prepare a joint statement for the
VIth International Conference on Acid Deposition to be held
in the year 2000 in Japan. The organizers will welcome papers on
any of the themes in the context of Asia: sources, sinks and reactions
of air pollutants, air pollution, transport and modeling measurements of
air pollutants, effects (on health, ecosystems, materials archaeological
remains), technological, economical and legal aspects of pollution control
and policy issues relating to the management of air air pollution.
We hope this conference will help Asian countries in finding cross border
multilateral network with reasonable and rational approach in the field
of air pollution.
