An Earth Charter and Agenda 21 for Iowa

The United Nations Association of the United States of America is a national organization dedicated to strengthening the United Nations system and to enhancing U.S. participation in international institutions.

The mission of the Iowa Division, UNA-USA is to provide grassroots support for the United Nations system as well as to develop and relay citizens' ideas to the U.N. and U.S. leadership. The Iowa Division heightens public understanding and concern about global issues and their relationship to the U.N. system through research, education, and information services.

As a follow-up to the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and after two years of work, including public forums in Ames, Des Moines, Davenport, Oskaloosa, Sheldon, Cedar Rapids, and Burlington, the Iowa Division has recently released a document entitled An Earth Charter and Agenda 21 for Iowa. This document suggests an environmental agenda for Iowa and describes how Iowans can address both local and global environmental problems.
